Fashion Do's and Don'ts

By: Monica N. ('20)

DO KNOW WHAT FASHION REALLY MEANS TO YOU

For me personally, it means being comfortable, not trying too hard but at the same time looking snatched.

DO INVEST IN WORTHWHILE PIECES

For somebody on a budget, this may not seem like a good suggestion. However, it definitely makes the difference. Know what to wear at different occasions. It’s better to have 10 high quality pieces than 10 pounds of crap.

Some pieces that I suggest investing in:

-a plain white t shirt/shirt

-stuff that you like, that you can be comfortable and confident in

-anything that resembles you

-stuff with good quality.

-Jewelry

DO KNOW THAT SMALL ACCESSORIES ARE NECESSARY

Jewelry is one of the most important elements in styling.

Choose unique ones for your daily life, no matter how boring and plain; a pair of earrings or a funky designed bracelet can make your outfit way more interesting. But do not make your jewelry choices with your eyes closed. Pick the ones that you can handle.

DO TAKE CARE OF YOUR STUFF

The quality itself isn't the only part that matters for a styling piece. How good the piece turn out looking on you reflects how much heart you put into it. Know what kind of clothes are to be dry cleaned, what kinds should always be hand washed and keep your clothes in a clean and dry closet. Your closet will be messy and miserable without paying attention at these details.

DON’T OVERDO IT

Avoiding having more than 4 colors on your whole body (it’s always nice to have a pop of color with jewelry, hand bags, belts or shoes to light up the whole outfit when wearing something plain.)

NO COMPLICATED PATTERNS

Too much pattern isn’t always the good thing. (Most of the time it isn’t.) Spend your time on fabric and color choices rather than those complicated and messy patterns.

DON’T BE RESTRAINED BY “TRENDS” (don’t say no without trying)

Be yourself, have your own style. The thing that shines through the fashion is who you are. Dress up for yourself, fashion is always personal, make yourself happy is what really matters. Tips above that I’ve given are from my personal aspects. What makes you happy is really what fashion is.
