MEET THE TEAM

Mimi L

Co-Editor In Chief

Hi! My name is Mimi, and I am an IB junior at Country Day and the co-Editor-in-Chief for the Hook. I am a Chai Latte lover, avid reader, and a world champion napper. Having gone to Country Day since what feels like forever, I understand that it's easy to become complacent in this community. Being a part of The Hook Squad has helped me to step out of my comfort zone and encourage others to use their unique voices. If you don't think you have something to write about - you're wrong. Each of us has an inner monologue that is screaming to come out. As Dr. Waples says: why are you best storyteller of the story that you're telling? I hope these articles provide a window into our Country Day community and that you get Hooked!

Foster H

Web Editor

Hey, I’m Foster, a Sophomore and Country Day lifer. I am the Web Editor for The Hook, and I work with my fellow editors to create each edition of The Hook by building The Hook’s website. I believe that The Hook plays a vital role here at Country Day by serving as a voice for inspired students to demonstrate their knowledge and inform the Country Day community. I’m a political enthusiast, an award winning MUN member, and a photographer. In my free time, I love to surf, trail run, and play soccer. You can view some of my photography under the Photos page.

Emma P

Multimedia Editor

Hey y’all! I’m Emma and right now I’m a junior. I’m the multi-media editor which means that I run the photographic side of the hook. I comprise pictures from all of y’all that either have to do with the focus of the edition or simply just some cool pics of the campus or of Charlotte that I think other people would love to see, for each edition. I also run the Instagram (which you should go follow). I love being apart of something so unique as the hook and getting to learn more and more about the experiences and views that are held by the students at Country Day. The hook serves as the perfect outlet for so many voices and I hope that you enjoy reading what we’ve put together!!

Charlotte V

Managing Editor

Hey world! My name is Charlotte and I'm a sophomore. I don’t know how you can get to know me in this blurb, so I'm just going to go with Forrest Gump and tell you about my shoes. I have three pairs of crocs and about five pairs of sequin-covered shoes--- the pink Heelys are my favorites. Hopefully that helps and I'll also tell you that I'm an ex-vegetarian. After four years of suffering, I ate a chicken nugget last summer and my world has changed immensely. I average about two cheeseburgers a week if I'm going to be honest… The Hook to me is an open space for everyone to feel safe sharing their own views. I encourage everyone to submit!!!!

Ellie D

Multimedia Editor

Hey guys, I’m Ellie Dixon and next year I will be a sophomore! This year, I’ll be helping Emma Parbery who is the multi-media manager, which focuses on the photographic side of The Hook. We also run The Hook Instagram, so make sure to follow us :) To let you know a little about who I am, I’m a strong believer in reading books more than once, and I always read a page in the middle of the book before I buy it. Books btw, are always 100% better than the movie, I promise. The Hook is not only for writing, but also for photography, media arts, and allows you to explore the unique voices of our student body. For those of you who may be hesitant in submitting your work, The Hook is here to be your creative outlet, and know that your work is valued by not just The Hook Team, but the student body. We hope you love The Hook as much as we do… enjoy!

Rachel G

Co-Editor In Chief

Hey guys! Its Rachel. I would love to be friends with you all, so let me tell you a little about myself. I am 17, a cheerleader, a dancer, a huge extrovert and addicted to coffee. I am the Co-Editor-in-Chief with my lovely partner-in-crime, Mimi, and we are so excited to share The Hook with you all this year. Being scared to submit to The Hook when I was a freshman, I am here to tell you that is not nearly as scary as it seems. The Hook is a place where I can freely voice my opinion and just brain dump whatever is on my mind. We always wanna hear what you have to say, and its not just for "senior girls" or "book lovers"…. Its for anyone and everyone. We hope you enjoy & happy writing!!

Lucy E

Managing Editor

Hi! I'm Lucy, and I'm an IB Junior and a Managing Editor for The Hook. I am a firm believer that Ross and Rachel were not on a break, a devastatingly picky eater and can most likely be found in the pool. I'll also always choose the lake over the beach, books over movies and Oreos over any other cookie. I always loved both telling and collecting stories, and The Hook is a place where I get to do both. Here, I can share my voice and what I'm passionate about while also learning what everyone on campus wants to share. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where opinions and ideas flow freely and the entire CCDS community can feel included. Hopefully along the way you'll be inspired to think about something in a way you hadn't before checking out The Hook . Enjoy!

Riley O

Managing Editor

Hi! I’m Riley! I’m a sophomore and one of the managing editors here at The Hook. You might know me for the awkward and embarrassing story that I told at the 2018 improv show, but I promise- I’m MUCH more awkward and embarrassing in real life. Other than embarrassing myself an average of five times a day, I’m also a loud extrovert that can usually be found ruining cup of coffee with an extreme amount of cream and sugar. As someone who has an opinion on everything ranging from politics to whether pineapple belongs on a pizza (the answer is obviously no), I love that The Hook is a place where you're encouraged to share your views on anything and everything, whether you’re a shy freshman or a confident senior.

McAuley M

Copy Editor

Hey! I'm McAuley and I have recently joined The Hook as a copy editor. I enjoy chilled Dasani, weekly horoscopes, and unusual vocabulary words. The key to my heart is chocolate almond milk, and I believe that a vine quote is an appropriate response in any situation. I encourage everyone to write for The Hook at some point during High School, because I believe that learning to voice your opinions is the key to finding yourself. Write about anything you care about and let us help you share it with the world!

Lilah P

Copy Editor

Hey Pals! I'm Lilah and I am proudly serving as Copy Editor for The Hook. I'm a shameless Raisin Bran eater, Broadway Junkie, Zumba lover, Jack Johnson groupie, and shmoozer (I can and will talk your ear off- be warned). I'm not even going to pretend I don't love Membean, and if you do too The Hook is a great place to drop some of those new fancy vocab words. The Hook gives the perfect opportunity to zoom out of your friend group or even grade, and connect to the larger Country Day community. It’s a great platform to hear about the opinions and experiences of someone you don't usually talk to, or to laugh at a dumb satire so bazaar you’re not sure you are laughing for the right reasons. So read, or write, or just laugh, but no matter what - you will undeniably and unapologetically get hooked:)!

Jacob B

Associate Editor

Hi! My name is Jacob and I am a Junior.  I have been writing for the Hook since my freshman year, and am so excited to be part of the team as the associate editor. You can find me struggling in the science lab, printing pictures in the darkroom, leading a DAF, or talking about how amazing IB is. I love to travel and I am on a never ending search for the perfect bowl of Ramen. For me, The Hook is not only a place where I can share my insight about things I notice around campus but also a place where I can learn about how other people think.
